Friction is the resistance that one surface or object encounters when moving over another according to a dictionary definition I read. As a part of the the A-Z Science Experiments for Kids series hosted by Frogs and Snails and Puppy Dog Tails, my son and I conducted a series of cool experiments that explored friction.

More complex equipment is available to investigate how an inclined plane affects friction forces (see Fig 2). With this equipment, pupils are able to adjust the angle of the slope until the block starts to move. Different surfaces can be attached to the sloping surface so pupils can investigate how much friction …

In a series of three experiments we have a look at how friction can be looked at and determined. First I look at the inclined plane often done as an experime Experiment 6 The Coefficient of Friction Equipment: 1 ULI with force probe 1 Inclined plane (see Fig. 6-1) 1 Wooden block 1 Triple beam balance Masses Pulley Objectives: To measure the coefficients of static and kinetic friction between a wooden block and a wooden plane. Theory Friction is the force that resists the Friction, equilibrium, limiting friction, normal contact force, horizontal, proportional, gradient, coefficient of friction Notes on the activity The information sheet contains information that students will discover in their investigation. It should only be given to students after they have completed the main part of the worksheet. We agreed that friction is a force that can stop objects from moving. It was then time for a practical experiment.

the kinetic friction coefficient between the wood block and the sloped board. The standard deviation from our newly designed experiment is ~3 times smaller than that of the traditional experiment, which demonstrates that our experiment may be a viable replacement for standard high school physics experiments on kinetic friction.

Open the experiment file 05C_Friction, and then connect the Smart Cart to the software using Bluetooth. 2. Set up the equipment like the picture. If you add more mass to a brick and slide it across a surface, then frictional force will increase because as an object gains more mass, more force is required to pull th object, causing the friction acting on the object to increase.
